Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) visited the B’nai B’rith Apartments of Deerfield Beach, Florida, today, where she witnessed firsthand how vital affordable housing is for the wellbeing of seniors.
“B’nai B’rith Apartments of Deerfield Beach is a great example of our community’s dedication to providing affordable housing for seniors. This exceptional facility offers a safe and welcoming environment, highlighting the importance of ensuring that our seniors have access to high-quality housing that meets their needs,” Cherfilus-McCormick said. “Affordable housing is a fundamental pillar of a healthy and fair society. For our senior citizens, it is more than just a place to live; it is a foundation for security, independence and well-being. Access to affordable housing becomes increasingly crucial as we age, enabling seniors to live with dignity and peace of mind. The stability provided by such housing allows them to concentrate on their health, engage with their communities and maintain a high quality of life.”
During her visit, Cherfilus-McCormick viewed an apartment unit, the computer room, the library, television room, arts and crafts room and community room. She also met with residents to discuss issues that impact seniors such as affordable housing, income security, nutrition assistance and health care.
Welcoming the congresswoman on behalf of the building’s board of directors were Dennis Rice, co-chair of the B’nai B’rith Senior Housing Committee and president of the board; Arlene Cohen, vice president of the board; and Arty Freed, board member. Additionally, building management was represented by building Administrator Jim Lynch; Assistant Managers Hasani Carlton and Tameka Perez; and Service Coordinator Cynthia Charles.
“We thank Congresswoman Cherfilus-McCormick for visiting B’nai B’rith Apartments of Deerfield Beach,” said B’nai B’rith Legislative Director for Aging Policy Evan Carmen. “Affordable housing is one of many programs, like Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid, which are bedrocks for countless older adults around the country. Congressional visits like the one today, with resident advocacy, raise awareness for these vital programs’ long-term success.”
